Class Notes Guidelines

Please check class note guidelines prior to submitting a class note on the ROCK or to the Alumni and Parent Relations Office.

General Guidelines

While we do our best to print all class notes as written, we may need to edit due to space limitations, appropriateness of language and content or repetition of content. Please keep the following in mind before you submit your class note:
Class notes will be accepted in the following manner:

  • If the alumnus/ alumna in the note notifies the college of the news (except condolences, which may come from the alum’s family).
  • If the college receives electronic notifications of the event from a news article or bulletin from another publication/ public relations office.
  • If the announcement is publically published and references the alumnus/ alumna by name and their association with the college.

However, the College is not responsible for publishing announcements if the alumnus/ a does not submit notification to the alumni office.

  • If you are informing us of the passing of an alumnus/a, please make every effort to also forward the obituary to us.
  • Always include your city and state of residence.
  • Contact information such as telephone numbers, addresses, or e-mail addresses will not be published.
  • All class notes will be printed only once; no photographs will be published after publication of the note.

Photograph Submission Guidelines

Because we often receive low resolution photographs not suitable for printing, we offer guidelines to help ensure that photos can be included and so that we can identify them properly:

  • Paper copies of photographs will only be returned if the following is written on the back;
    • Alum’s full name and class year
    • Name of subject of photograph and relation to the alum
    • Return address
  • Electronic photos should preferably be no less that 500 KB in size when attached to e-mail or uploaded to the ROCK. Acceptable formats are: JPG, TIF or EPS.
    • When attaching a photograph to an e-mail, give the file a specific title with the name(s) of the alum, subject relationship, graduating year and note type. Examples:” JaneSmith08baby.jpg” or “JohnSmith07career.jpg”
    • Send photos as email attachments or uploads to the ROCK, not in the body of a Word document containing the text for the class notes.
    • Always provide captions for each photo at the end of the text for the class notes. They can be as simple as the name(s) of those pictured in the photo. Example: “Joan Smith, daughter of Jane Smith ’08” or “John Smith ’07 recently accepted the new title of regional manager”
